Weapon Comparison - Brute Shot vs Rocket Launcher

May. 21 2:11 PM by Dylan Duarte

It's Wednesday Wednesday WEDNESDAY! Watch as the titans clash! The unstoppable juggernaut known as the rocket launcher takes on the quick and deadly brute shot. Two will enter the arena but only will leave alive. Hit the jump to watch the most horrific carnage that you'll ever see! AAAAAAHHHHH!!!

When I say "watch the most horrific carnage" I mean read these words that I type. But hey, words are exciting!

When playing Halo, those that have a love for explosions find themselves going after one of two weapons: the Covenant brute shot or the UNSC rocket launcher. Both wield immense destructive power against man and machine alike.

The rocket launcher is a staple of all online first person shooters. Many people use it, much more people complain about it. It's fairly simple to use effectively and can rack up a pretty high body count, especially when dealing with vehicles. With the exception of the Scorpion Tank and the Wraith, the rocket launcher can destroy any vehicle and kill all of its passengers in one hit.

Adding to the rocket launcher's usefulness is its surprisingly quick rate of fire, which allows you to dispatch two rockets fairly quickly.

The brute shot, while still very powerful, requires a whole different strategy. Each grenade fired is a lot less powerful than one rocket, but a brute shot magazine holds six grenades which can all be fired in less than 5 seconds. This constant bombardment can kill any target and destroy almost any vehicle.

One clear advantage the brute shot has over the rocket launcher is the ability to bounce grenades off walls. This makes you capable of killing targets around corners and such without ever having to expose yourself to harm.

And here we come to the inherent flaw in weapon comparison: it ultimately comes down to you. I prefer the brute shot. Someone with decent accuracy can make each shot count and unlike the rocket launcher, which can only hold 6 rockets, the brute shot holds up to 18 grenades.

BRUTE SHOT SUCKS ROCKETS RULE

The Brute Shot in Halo 3 does not have bouncing grenades, that was in Halo 2. Halo 3's BS grenades only arc at extremely long range, and explode on contact. The explosions are fairly weak as well. In Halo 3 it takes 3-4 direct hits to kill someone. A rocket launcher only needs one shot, direct or at the feet. It can also kill an entire team if they are clustered together. The Brute Shot can't do that without you having to unload a full clip.
