Weapon Comparison - The Battle of the Sniper Rifles

Ah, the sniper rifle. Find yourself a good hiding spot, hang back, and dominate the battle from afar while members of the opposing team frantically scramble about searching for you. Imagine racking up your kill count while never having to engage in actual battle. Hit the jump to read my comparison of the coward's weapon. (I kid, I kid!)

Snipers get the choice of either the UNSC Sniper Rifle System 99D-S2 Anti-Materiel or the Covenant Type-50 Sniper Rifle System, which is a lot shorter and easier to remember.

If you're an expert marksman, it's not going to matter which rifle you choose, because getting a headshot with either is an instant kill.

The UNSC rifle holds four rounds per magazine and can fire them off in fairly quick succession. The Covenant sniper rifle has a slightly faster rate of fire and less recoil, but can only unload a few rounds before overheating. If you're confident that you can pick off your target in just a few trigger pulls, go with the Covenant rifle. However, if you're wildly inaccurate like me, you might fare better with the UNSC model. The UNSC model is also slightly more powerful, so if you don't have it in you to make a headshot, that's the way to go.

The UNSC rifle can hold up to 24 rounds compared to the Covenant rifle's 18 - 20 charges. Another disadvantage of the latter is that it leaves a bright purple streak after each shot, which is much more obvious than the UNSC rifle's subtle vapor trail. The UNSC rifle is much louder, but it won't necessarily give away your position. The bright purple trail makes it hard to hold a good sniping spot and will force you to move frequently.

Out of all the comparisons that I've done so far, I think that this is the most cut and dry. The UNSC rifle is almost always the one to use.
