Halo Movie Casting Call

Dec. 19 2:55 AM by Dylan Duarte

"Most of all, I'd like to thank Cortana, the Artifical Intelligence living in my armor."

When making a movie based on a pre-established property, you're always going to have disappointed fans. It doesn't matter how loyal you are to the source material, fanboys will always whine and moan about every little detail. The key is to stop caring about those people. While look and, to a lesser extent, voice went into my casting decisions, I also put a heavy focus on acting ability. I'm also a huge fan of the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", so in my dream Halo movie, I would keep a lot of the fantastic voice actors from the games. But in the spirit of Hollywood, I've thrown in some bigger names that could fit the roles as well. That said, hit the Read link to see my casting choices for the Halo movie.

Christian Bale as Master Chief

Let's be honest; it doesn't take a lot to pull off Master Chief. He's in his armor the entire time and he barely speaks. However, when he does speak, it should be memorable. Christian Bale is a fantastic actor and his time in the batsuit in Batman Begins has given him the skills necessary to make an impression with only a few lines.

Tricia Helfer as Cortana

Tricia Helfer, best known for her role as Six in Battlestar Galactica (the remake), could play a mean Cortana. She both looks and sounds similar to Master Chief's AI companion, and because of her role as a Cylon, she has the "kind-of-like-a-human-but-not-really" personality down perfect. Not to mention she's gorgeous, and what's hotter than an Artificial Intelligence Construct?

Denzel Washington as Sergeant Major Avery Johnson

I almost went with grizzled veteran Carl Weathers on this one. While Weathers arguably looks and sounds more like Johnson, he doesn't have the presence that Washington does. Next to Master Chief, Johnson is one of the few people unafraid to stand toe to toe with the worst the Covenant has to offer. You need to believe that the guy isn't afraid of anything and Washington can definitely pull it off.

James Earl Jones as the Arbiter

Like I said before, I strongly believe that you shouldn't fix what isn't broken. Keith David has done an amazing job voicing the Arbiter in both Halo 2 and 3 and I think he would do a fantastic job reprising that role on the big screen. For the sake of the casting call, however, James Earl Jones would be outstanding as the Arbiter. And in my dream movie, the Arbiter is partially computer animated, but also a good deal of prosthetics. I don't want this looking like the Phantom Menace.

Terence Stamp as the Prophet of Truth

Terence Stamp is the Prophet of Truth. He voiced the character in the games and he can voice the character in the movie. I'm sure as hell not telling the man who played General Zod in Superman 2 that he can't be in the Halo movie. I don't want my ass thrown into the phantom zone, no thank you.

Lucy Lawless as Commander Miranda Keys

Another Battlestar Galactica veteran, Lawless definitely has what it takes to play the tough-as-nails Commander. Her experience from Xena: Warrior Princess has shown that she's a force to be reckoned with, which is only fitting for the daughter of the late Jacob Keyes. She has the look, accent, and if she were a guy, she'd definitely have the balls.

Geoffrey Pierson as Captain Jacob Keyes

A little bit of an unknown, Geoffrey Pierson is perhaps best known for his short stint on 24 as the President of the United States and his current role on Showtime's Dexter as Captain Tom Matthews. If you've ever seen him in action, you know the man can command authority, which is a must have quality for Captain Keyes.

Clancy Brown as Gravemind

Who better to voice the disgusting, terrifying personification of the flood than the man who voices Mr. Krabs on Spongebob Squarepants? Seriously though, Clancy Brown is one of the most talented voice actors working today and it would be a treat to hear his deep, scratchy voice rambling off some of the Gravemind's cryptic messages.

Ron Perlman as Fleet Admiral Sir Terrence Hood

Like Terrence Stamp, I couldn't deny Ron Perlman a role he's already mastered. Perlman voices the character and just happens to look pretty damn similar. And if you couldn't tell from his voice, he's a total badass. If you need proof, check out Hellboy, where he plays the titular character.

So there you have it: my perfect Halo movie. Feel free to tell me what you think about my choices or even give some of your own casting ideas in the comments section.

Put Batman as Master Chief?!

i doubt this u know, and im not sure if there will be a Halo Movie

Project Halo 4 is already failed, if there is a movie, it better be good

wow great picks.

This is a HORRIBLE list and it stupid shit like this Dylan that would make this movie suck. First off, Spartans are HUGE you dumb shit so sense MC is always in his gear, just get a big guy to play him, someone like that huge dude from Troy. It does not matter, the voice?????? The same fucking guy.....Cortona, she would be CG anyways so leave her the same way and use Jen as the voice..I know this must be blowing your mind by now little boy....The Arbiter, CG with the same voice, as with almost everyother person.....man, your sad

the humans part is ok. but the aliens will be CGI so why not have the same voice from the game. Master Chief can just have some big dude under the suit and the voice from the game since ur not gonna see his face. they can pick a better cortana than that. but now that u mention it, james earl jones does sound a tad like the arbiter

I don't think they should go overboard with the CGI. Otherwise, it will come out looking like something George Lucas threw up. And like I said in the opening post, I would cast most of the voice actors from the game. I just know that if they made a Halo movie, they would go the Hollywood route and cast big name actors. And yes, I'm perfectly aware that the Halo movie is in production Hell.

Christian Bale would make an awesome Master Chief! :)

Sweet picks. This image of Cortana you used made me think of my pick for Cortana, which is Milla Jovovich. Doesn't that screen of Cortana look like Milla?

Oh man, not only does that shot of Cortana look like Milla, but it looks just like her character in the Fifth Element. Good eye.

not bad choices but what did hateful dude mean about halo project 4 already being dead? The only game bungie ever planed to make after halo 3 is halo wars. So either you have some information bungie hasn't publicly released or you don't know what you're talking about.

Awesome! Great casting choices. I think Chritian Bale is a superb actor and would definately make the perfect Master Chief. And although it would make me a bit sad that I wouldn't be able to see his face for the whole movie, you should totally ask him to do it. What was up with "Solid_Wii"'s winning personality anyways? He/she needs to chill out. I do have to agree that Milla Jovovich(so hot by the way) does look like Cortana and should be considered for the role.

Terrance Stamp *didn't* voice Prophet of Truth in all the games, as you imply, only 3. Michael Wincott played him in Halo 2, and in my opinion sounded far better, more unearthly and sinister than Stamp in 3. I don't know whether Wincott was genuinely unable to voice the character or if Bungie just decided to throw in a better known actor to play the part to market 3 more (they haven't explained their reasons for recasting Miranda Keyes either), but Wincott made Truth as evil and manipulative as he should be.

Good list, man! I never knew that Clancy Brown is Mr. Krabs. Thats awesome! He was great in Carnival too.

The greatest thing about this movie is that sonyfanboys/halo haters won't be there to ruin the experience. Great list!!! Halo Rulz!

he doesn't know what he's talking about... referring to hatefulchick.

I have no idea who any of those people are, but the look a little more better for the voice than the real role, but on the other hand, Im looking forward to the Gears Movie as well (not that im not a halo fan, i love halo) but i really just wanna hear a solid relase date...

Ok the first 3 were good but the rest were fuckin stupid

james earl jones would be good for his deep voice (vader)but i could see cristian bale as master chief him or maybe jake gyllenhal? or maybe the guy who played human torch in f4......

I am so glad no of you fucking idiots have anything to do with the Halo movie since you would all fuck it up with your stupid ideas......why does a a actor need to play fucking MC??????????? You would never fucking see him!!!!!!!!! all those people are too short......do you know how tall a spartan is???? VERY FUCKING TALL DUMB FUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Solid_Wii, I am so glad the entire human race doesn't comprise of fucking idiots like yourself... we would have been doomed from the start. First of all, learn how to speak correct english (Or spell it for that matter). Secondly.. chill the HELL out... jesus. Did your parents beat you too much as a child? This guy just posted his choices IN HIS OPINION of who should be cast... and you go freaking ballistic. Just chill the hell out. Go eat some vitamins and take a couple of prozacs to calm you down.

Oh and have you ever seen star wars? That's a perfect example of actor replacement... NEWS FLASH idiot, the guy in the darth vadar suit wasn't James Earl Jones! Oh, did I spoil that secret for you... i'm sorry I thought it was common knowledge. The good thing about having a character in a costume the entire time is that they can just have the stunt double do EVERYTHING while they go back over with *ACTORS NAME HERE*'s voice. That way the main character can be more ballsy with his moves.

I seriously hope the movie, IF it's made, is not CGI. We're not at the point where CGI and real life are indistinguishable yet. I want a LIVE-action halo, done well. Believe me... the problem with movies made after games aren't because of the poor cast... it's because of the poor writers that don't have the rights to the franchise. I think this guy's choices of actors are top notch but I doubt they would all agree to do this movie.

Exactly! "Brian85" has read my mind. "Solid_Wii" has anger problems and needs to calm down. He's so blinkered, the wanker. Anyroad, "mustafarmaster"'s alternative choices for Master Chief wouldn't exactly be my first choices. Jake Gyllenhal? Chris Evans (that's the F4 humantorch guy by the way)? Bad choices. Neither of them are NEARLY cool enough to play such an important character. I think Dylan's casting choices are topping but as "Brian85" said, I wouldn't count on most of these candidates would opt to do the movie. Monkeyfish is right, Clancy Brown was brilliant in Carnival, bit scary even. Christian Bale rocks, Cheers.

How about we all just take a deep breath here? Solid Wii, you have every right to argue your point and tell me how bad I am at casting, but you're being a negative Nancy and no one likes that. And to Brian85, 192, and others, I really appreciate the support.

If I truly had my way, Christian Bale would play everyone in the movie, because he's the best actor in the world forever and ever. The end.

i think u have a cast crew here.but maby we sould keep thinking who sould be master chief, dont get me wrong i like Christian Bale is a gud master chief but there is still sum other ppl u no like Brad Pitt, the spartan king leoniadas from the movie 300,george clooney,Bruce willis,Jason straham.u no there are still other but not really sure of.u no am just say wat i think.

You're totally welcome DylanDuarte! Christian Bale is the best actor in the whole damn world! It would be great if he could play the Master Chief. But it is good to have alternatives, you have a good point there Spawnslayer. Never know if Christian will be available, I expect he's in high demand. But Christian Bale is my #1 choice.

I think that all the actors you are using for the movie are great. All the experience they gained from previous movies such as Clancy Brown starring in "Starship Troopers" with all those blood sucking aliens, will definetly help 'em out in the long run making the movie more surprising.

I agree with all of the choices above except for Christian Bale as Master Chief. Don't get me wrong, Christian Bale is a great actor and all but, if I had to choose, I'd like to see George Clooney playing the role of master Chief. As you say, since master chief is covered in armor and doesn't talk much, his voice needs to be memorable. George Clooney has a voice more suited for the role of master chief and he also has more of the Master Chief attitude (if you ask me). Other than that, I commend your great choices.

I think they were great choices except for MC, i will be disappointed if they dont use master chiefs voice from the game.

is that really no its not cuz steve downes is master cheif isnt he

i agree with all the casting but if denzel washington turns your offer down you might want to try Morgan Freeman. he looks like the part except for the grey hair but you can dye it for the movie. and Gerard Butler can be Master Chief.

i think Tricia Helfer would be good. i am a Tricia fan so it would be cool.

Why not use the master cheif himself, Steve Downes ( The Voice of Master Chief ) if hes gonna be in a suit the whole time hes perfect for the voice since he is the MC's voice and they can have the stunt doubles do all the moves needed when they film asumming they ever do film.

there is a link below with Steve Downes saying if there was a movie he would gladly play the MC he also talks about how it will be a very looonggg time if they actually dicide to film it.

LINKS OMITTED

if not you can always try Vin Deisel, one downside tho... hes kinda short for the job dont think he would get picked.
