Weapon Wednesdays: Halo 3 - Gravity Hammer

Nov. 19 9:00 PM by Dylan Duarte

The most notable - not to mention badass - new addition to Halo 3 is the wieldable Gravity Hammer. I say "Wieldable" because the weapon does show up in Halo 2, in the hands of the Brute Chieftain Tartarus, but you aren't able to get your grubby spartan hands on one until the third installment of the franchise.

Mjolnir ain't got nothing on this!

I know Mjolnir is the name of a series of Spartan armor, but I was referring to the hammer of Thor, in case you weren't nerd enough to catch that.

The Gravity Hammer is hands-down the most devastating melee weapon and one of the most devastating weapons in the game. Even if your swing doesn't make direct contact, the shockwave is enough to kill lesser beings and flip vehicles. Suffice to say, if you're wielding a hammer, enemies can take you out from long range without giving you a chance. If you're able to get in close, however, the only weapons that can pose a threat are the energy sword and the shotgun.

Like the Energy Sword, the Gravity Hammer can run out of juice, in this case battery power. For this reason, use it as a secondary weapon.

Aside from enemies and vehicles, the hammer can also repel grenades and rockets though the timing on the latter can be pretty tricky.

Keep in mind that the hammer is huge and very visible on your backside, so sneaking up on your victim may be a little difficult.
