Weapon Wednesdays: Halo 3 - Heavy Machine Gun Turret

Sep. 24 5:57 PM by Dylan Duarte

Powerful yet limiting, Halo 3 made the heavy machine gun turret even more versatile by adding the ability to rip it off its base and lug it around, forging a path of destruction. Hit the jump to read all about this beast.

The turret fires armor piercing rounds at blazing speeds, making it effective against not only all foes but light vehicles as well. When attached, the ammunition is unlimited. Once taken off its base, it offers 200 rounds.

Not only is does newly-added ability to detach it make it more effective than previous games in the series, but it's also more powerful than the previous M247 GR machine gun.

Taking a heavy machine gun off its base is risky. While it could pay it off big, it slows the user down exponentially, both walking and turning, and takes up both hands. When fired, the gun has a one-to-two second delay while the barrel spins, which leaves the user open for a quick attack.

The heavy machine gun sports decent accuracy for how quickly it fires. The gun does climb up during non-stop fire, but the sheer weight of it reduces the recoil.

When carrying the heavy machine gun, although it takes both hands, you still retain both weapons you had previously. The camera also switches to a third-person view, like when you pick up the flamethrower, missile pod, or plasma cannon.

If you walk in a diagonal position, you will go considerably faster. You can also move faster by constantly dropping it and picking it up.
